Empower women to accelerate progress

Womanly Foundation Founder speech on empowering women and education girls
(Geneva, Tuesday 31 May 2016) – Last night, at a gala dinner in Paris, BNP Wealth Management presented the 9th BNP Paribas Prize for Individual Philanthropy which honours the outstanding work of philanthropists around the world. Awarded annually since 2008 by a jury of independent and internationally recognized experts, the distinction goes to two philanthropists for their exemplary initiatives: the Grand Prize honouring a life-time’s achievements, and the Jury’s Special Prize for a pioneering and promising philanthropic endeavour.

Yann Borgstedt, Swiss entrepreneur and philanthropist, received the Jury’s Special Prize 2016, in recognition of his Womanity Foundation’s ground-breaking work and of his personal commitment (watch the video on Womanity here).
Yann Borgstedt created Womanity in 2005 with the firm conviction that the best way to universally accelerate socio-economic progress lies in the empowerment of girls and women, based on approaches that promote multi-sectorial collaborations.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this award,” said Yann Borgstedt. “It’s an important recognition of our commitment to creating a better world by bringing an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit to the philanthropic sector.”
The jury awarded the prize based on a series of criteria including the social impact achieved by the initiatives evaluated, personal and financial commitments, professionalism, sustainability and transparency of the projects.
